RESCUERS in India have yet to ascertain the number of miners still trapped in an illegal coal mine which collapsed on Monday in Assam state.
For now, the authorities estimated that there could be up to 20 people, Makkal Osai reported.
These workers were extracting coal at the mine – known as “rat holes” for its narrowness – when there was a sudden flooding.
Some managed to escape but many others were trapped.
The exact number and identities of those who remained inside the pit could not be determined as the mine was operating illegally.
> Pupils of SJK (T) Ladang Ayer Tawar, which burned down on Monday, will resume their classes through online platforms, Malaysia Nanban reported.
No one was injured as the teachers managed to evacuate the pupils in time.
There is a new school building which was apparently completed in 2023 but has yet to obtain the required approvals.
“For now, the 32 pupils and 13 teachers will rely on online learning while the final certification for the new building is being sorted out,” said School board chairman P. Manaharan.
