PEKAN: A family of five, including a baby, were killed in a collision involving two vehicles on Jalan Nenasi-Rompin, near Kampung Sembayan.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department acting director Wan Ahmad Fadillah Wan Abdul Rahman said that 23 personnel from the Kuala Rompin and Nenasi fire stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call about the incident at 7.14pm.

"Upon the team's arrival at the scene, we found that the accident involved a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and two other cars.

"The operation utilised various equipment, including a fire rescue tender (FRT), four-wheel drive truck, light fire rescue tender (LFRT) and emergency medical rescue services to provide emergency assistance," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 11), reported Sinar Harian.

He said that a man and a woman in one of the cars sustained injuries, while five victims, including a baby, were trapped in the other car.

He said that fire personnel immediately conducted a rescue operation and successfully extricated all five trapped victims.

"However, all victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers.

"The bodies of all the victims were taken to Pekan Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while the two injured victims were sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment," he said.

Wan Ahmad Fadillah stated that the case has been handed over to the police for further investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
