A WOMAN in China, initially pregnant with nine babies, underwent a foetal reduction and subsequently lost the remaining two foetuses due to an infection, reported China Press.
The woman, who had struggled to conceive due to polycystic ovary syndrome, was overjoyed to discover she was pregnant with nine babies after undergoing fertility treatment.
However, the pregnancy took a heavy toll on her and doctors recommended a two-stage procedure to remove seven out of the nine foetuses.
She had fallen severely ill after she contracted an infection, forcing doctors to remove the remaining two foetuses.
The husband, whose surname was Hu, recounted the incident on social media on Jan 7.
“We tried so hard and for so long and yet failed to keep them,” Hu said.
He is currently considering legal action, claiming doctors had failed to inform them of the risk of a multiple pregnancy associated with fertility treatment.
