Mahathir Rais resigns from Bersatu and Perikatan roles

PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohd Rais has resigned as the Federal Territories secretary of Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional.

In a letter addressed to Bersatu and Perikatan Federal Territories chief Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, Mahathir announced his immediate resignation.

An online portal reported that his decision was influenced by a difference of opinion regarding the party's direction.

Mahathir has recently expressed opposition to Perikatan's support for Datuk Seri Najib Razak's efforts to serve his jail term under house arrest.

He described the rally for the former Prime Minister on Jan 6 as disheartening.

"Leaders who once branded Najib as kleptocratic and corrupt are now calling for leniency, exposing a willingness to sacrifice principles for political gain," he stated in a Dec 30 statement.
