IPOH: The government is committed to resolving the issues causing delays in the MyDigital ID programme and the rollout of the dual 5G network, says Gobind Singh Deo.
The Digital Minister stated that they hope to have some solutions ready during the National Council of Digital Economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (MED4IR) meeting next month.
"We are working on it.
"It is something that we are focused on and will do our utmost level best to solve it as soon as possible," he said at a press conference after the Jelajah Malaysia Digital @ Perak event at Lost World of Tambun Hotel on Sunday (Jan 12).
"The next MED4IR meeting is on Feb 12, so hopefully we can get results by then," he said, adding that his ministry was also working hard to resolve the problems.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year issued a mid-December deadline to resolve the delays of two key national digital initiatives, the MyDigital ID programme and the rollout of the dual 5G network.
Anwar expressed concern over the slow progress of MyDigital ID, with about 1.3 million registrations in early December last year.
The MyDigital ID is a national digital identification system for Malaysians aimed at protecting citizens from online fraud, identity theft, and easing identity verification for online services.
Its services include access to secure e-government services, banking, telecommunications, and healthcare.
On the dual 5G network initiative, delays reportedly stemmed from outstanding agreements between Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and telecommunications companies.
When asked to elaborate on the challenges being faced, Gobind said it would be for another press conference.
"There is a long explanation and it will take some time to discuss it, (but) there are problems and various ministries are involved.
"It is something that the Prime Minister has already asked us to focus on, we are doing what we can to resolve it soon," he added.
