IPOH: A senior citizen has lost about RM974,000 after falling victim to an investment scam here.
Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat said the victim came across the investment scheme on Facebook and clicked on a link on Dec 4, 2024.
"The link was provided by a woman who added the victim to a WhatsApp chat group called 'Nasional Malaysian Finance Management Association'.
"The victim was then asked to download an app called PGLO.PRO," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 12), adding that returns of a 20% return were promised within half an hour with a RM5,000 investment.
DCP Zulkafli said the victim made 16 transactions into three accounts totalling about RM974,000.
"On Jan 11, the complainant did a web search and found that the investment scheme does not exist before lodging a police report.
"The public is advised to always check suspicious investment schemes and not be easily scammed by schemes that promise high returns.
"This is especially when the companies are not registered with the Securities Commission, Bank Negara and the Companies Commission," he said.
