PM Anwar donates RM80,000 to Tanjung Dawai fire victims

TANJUNG DAWAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has donated RM80,000 to 16 families affected by a fire at Rumah Panjang here, which occurred on Jan 5

His political secretary, Kamil Munim, who delivered the donation, said that each family received RM5,000.

This included those from 14 houses that were burned, and two others that were affected after losing electricity supply.

The families are currently placed at the temporary relief centre.

"I have been informed that we are still waiting for a report from the fire department to learn more about the cause of the fire incident.

"I have also been instructed by the Prime Minister to meet with the victims and to deliver the donations to all 16 affected families, with the total amount of donations being RM80,000," he said, according to a Sinar Harian report.

He delivered the Prime Minister's special allocation at the temporary relief centre at the SJKC Choong Cheng hall here on Sunday (Jan 12).

According to Kamil, the assistance provided is hoped to help alleviate the burden on the families and for them to use in their search for temporary housing.

At the same time, he also hopes the residents' committee will look for other alternatives to find new housing for the victims, as they are still sheltering at the temporary relief centre.

"That's why we are here today, to provide initial donations so they can be used to meet some immediate needs," he said.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported that 14 houses were burned last Sunday (Jan 5), leaving some with nothing.
