Saifuddin leaving it to cops

No one is above the law, says minister in probe involving son

SEPANG: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has assured that no individual, including his own son, will be exempt from legal action if found guilty of wrongdoing.

He emphasised that his son is not above the law, adding that if a report has been filed, it is the police’s responsibility to investigate the case transparently and fairly.

“If there is merit to the allegations, we must allow the law to take its course. The principle I adhere to is that no one, including my son, is immune to the law,” he said after inspecting the newly installed QR code autogate system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday.

Saifuddin Nasution noted that, as previously stated by the police, investigations into his son for criminal intimidation have been concluded, and the case file has been submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action.

The case attracted public attention after social media posts alleged that a Cabinet minister’s son had threatened a woman who accused him of being responsible for her pregnancy.

The incident reportedly occurred during a discussion with the woman and several others at a house in Telok Air Tawar, Butterworth, Penang, on Dec 24 last year.

A police report was lodged on Jan 1, and authorities were said to be seeking a pregnancy report from the complainant.

It was later revealed that the minister’s son is married to the woman.

On a separate matter, Saifuddin Nasution confirmed he had been briefed on the arrest of a top executive of TV Sarawak and four others on Friday in connection with alleged money laundering and criminal breach of trust.

“Let the police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department conduct their investigation and complete the probe,” he said.
