Sarawak police arrest 10 locals, seize 137 fake firearms

KUCHING: The police have arrested three men and seven women, seizing 137 fake firearms during raids on five toy-selling premises in Kuching and Samarahan on Saturday (Jan 11).

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata confirmed that all the suspects arrested were locals, with ages ranging from 19 to 46 years old.

"The raids were carried out following a tip-off from the public about the sale of fake firearms.

"The police confiscated 67 fake rifles and 70 fake pistols, along with 344 packets and 18 bottles of plastic ammunition,” he said on Sunday (Jan 12).

The case is currently under investigation in accordance with Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, he said, adding that the Sarawak police will continue to supervise the sales of fake firearms in the state.

"Anyone with information is requested to contact the Sarawak contingent police headquarters at 011-15696554 or their nearest police station,” he added. – Bernama
