Fewer flood evacuees in Johor as Kulai relief centres close


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor has decreased from close to 4,000 persons reported early on Monday (Jan 13) following an upward trend seen over the weekend.

As of 2pm on Monday, there were 2,976 flood evacuees from 347 families in four flood-hit districts, with Kota Tinggi continuing to record the highest number of people affected, said the Johor Disaster Management Committee.

Kulai district has seen all of its flood relief centres closed at 11am the same day.

"A total of 546 people from 139 families in Kulai have been allowed to return home,” the committee said in a statement.

The committee noted that there are 1,155 flood evacuees from 333 families in Kota Tinggi as of 2pm on Monday (Jan 13).

"This was followed by Johor Baru with 694 flood victims, Pontian with 593, and Kluang with 534.

"One flood relief centre has also been opened in Kota Tinggi, and there are currently 34 active centres statewide," it said.
