Floods: Situation improves in Johor, number of evacuees drops to 2,584


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has been declining, with 2,584 people affected as of Monday (Jan 13) night.

This marks a drop of close to 400 people from the 2,976 flood evacuees recorded just six hours earlier.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee said that 31 flood relief centres remain open, with 16 in Johor Baru, 15 in Kota Tinggi, 10 in Pontian, and five in Kluang.

"As of 8pm, 2,584 people from 752 families are seeking shelter across the four districts.

"Kota Tinggi continues to record the highest number of flood victims, with 1,354 people from 397 families affected.

"This is followed by Pontian with 643 victims, Kluang with 534, and Johor Baru with 53," said the committee.

It added that most districts in Johor continue to experience rainy weather throughout the day on Monday (Jan 13).
