KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) 850-12 went above and beyond by providing medical care for the local community, in Marakah, Lebanon.

Held at the Malaysian Hall, Municipality Building in Marakah, the squad organised the Malbatt Medic Care Day recently.

"The programme provided medical checks for the public and dental care to ensure the local residents get to undergo sufficient checks, especially with the lack of facilities and high medical costs given the current conflict in Lebanon.

"Besides that, there were also activities for children, where they were able to interact with Malbatt personnel in a positive environment," Malbatt said in a statement on Monday (Jan 13).

Some 158 locals registered for the medical and dental checks during the programme, it said.

"The response from the locals is encouraging, showing their trust and faith towards Malbatt's commitment to helping those in need.

"The involvement of female Malbatt personnel has had a huge and positive impact towards the success of the programme, especially in building connections with local women and children.

"It is in line with the mandate of the United Nations (UN)," it added.

The programme is among several activities planned in the Civil-Military Cooperation (Cimic) programme.

"It not only directly benefits the people but it also strengthens relations between Malbatt, Lebanese society and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon's mission.

"Such efforts also alleviate the people's confidence towards Malaysia's role in global peacekeeping missions," he said.
