Senior citizen claims trial to sexually assaulting six-year-old girl


ALOR GAJAH: A 67-year-old man has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a charge of sexually assaulting a child.

The accused’s plea was recorded before Judge Syazana Abd Lajis on Monday (Jan 13).

Based on the charges, the accused had allegedly caressed the private parts of a six-year-old girl who is his neighbour.

The alleged offence took place at a house addressed at Batu 22, Jalan Sentosa, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Masjid Tanah here on Jan 6.

The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offence Against Children 2017 which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharina Farhana Nor Sa'ari prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

The court granted bail of RM8,000 and set an additional condition where the accused is required to report to the nearest police station every month until the end of his case.

The next mention date was fixed on Feb 18.
