Ex-auxiliary cop nabbed in Lahad Datu for robbery, posing as police

KOTA KINABALU: A former auxiliary policeman who posed as a policeman to extort and rob people in the Felda Sahabat area of Lahad Datu has been arrested.

Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail said Tuesday (Jan 14) the 39-year-old local suspect was arrested after a raid on an unnumbered house in Kampung Tanjung Labian in the Tungku area on Sunday (Jan 12).

He said they also seized police uniforms, an air rifle and pellets from the suspect's house.

The raid was conducted following a tip-off on the suspect's whereabouts, he added.

According to ACP Dzulbaharin, the suspect was an auxiliary policeman at the Felda Sahabat Kembara Sakti plantation but was terminated.

He said police believe he was involved in several robberies, the latest occurring on Sunday in Felda Sahabat.

He said the suspect had been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 392 of the Penal Code for unarmed robbery, Section 170 for impersonating a civil servant, as well as under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing an air rifle.
