‘Existing SOP is at its best level’

JOHOR BARU: The current standard operating procedure to prevent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination paper leaks is at its optimum level and will be maintained, said Education director-general Azman Adnan.

He added that the ministry had dismissed claims that the History paper of the 2024 SPM exam had leaked.

“When the term ‘leaked’ was used, it referred to the whole exam paper being exposed, but our investigations found no element of leakage.

“Our existing SOP is at its best level and we will continue complying with it,” he said when asked to comment on the matter after launching the Early Schooling Aid (BAP) at the Johor Education Department here yesterday.Previously, there were claims on social media that students had shared questions and answers for both Papers 1 and 2 of the 2024 SPM History exam, just days before the test.

Last Thursday, the ministry clarified that the claims were not classified as a “leak” under the Examination Board’s procedures for managing such incidents and ensuring security.

The latest SPM exam began on Dec 2 and continues until Feb 6.

Separately, Azman said that schools must ensure the RM150 BAP reaches the intended recipients in full without any deductions.

“The financial aid must be credited into the bank account or paid in cash to parents or guardians of all 5.2 million recipients nationwide within the set time frame.

“School principals and headmasters are also reminded to make sure that there are no deductions from the amount, either for parent-teacher association fees or any other fees.

“The intention of the BAP is to help lighten the burden of families with children starting the new school year come Feb 17 and it should be kept that way,” he said.

A total of RM87.2mil has been allocated to Johor to benefit 581,463 Year One to Form Six students studying in 1,193 schools.

“This is the government’s 13th year giving out the financial assistance,” he added.
