KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is finalising the investigation involving former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin related to the royal addendum on Datuk Seri Najib Razak's house arrest.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police recorded Khairy's statement on Monday (Jan 13).
"We are in the midst of completing the investigation within seven days before referring it to the deputy public prosecutor," he said on Tuesday (Jan 14).
It was reported that the police recorded Khairy's statement on Monday.
Razarudin said two police reports were lodged against the former minister last Friday (Jan 10), and the police have opened an investigation on the issue.
"The complainant claimed to have read a story from a news portal, which said Khairy alleged that Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said was complicit in hiding the royal addendum. The complainant said the news was not true and it has tarnished Azalina's reputation," he added.
The IGP said the Bukit Aman CID's Special Investigation Unit (USJT) recorded Khairy's statement at his office in Jalan Setia Bakti, Bukit Damansara on Monday.
"We are investigating under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Act 1998. We will investigate the matter further," he said.
On Jan 10, Azalina's political secretary Datuk Suraya Yaacob lodged a police report against Khairy at Sentul police station.
Earlier, through his "Keluar Sekejap" podcast, Khairy claimed there was a crisis of confidence towards his former party Umno following the royal addendum involving Najib.
Khairy also claimed that Azalina was complicit in hiding the additional documents that would have enabled the former premier to undergo house arrest.
