Umrah operator faces suspension after 379 pilgrims left stranded

PUTRAJAYA: An umrah operator accused of failing to fly 379 prospective pilgrims to the holy land faces a seven-day suspension of operations.

Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan said that the action would take effect on Wednesday (Jan 15) if the company did not refund the money by Tuesday (Jan 14) night.

"The company owner has promised to return the money to the 379 pilgrims," he told Sinar Harian.

Earlier, it was reported that over 300 prospective umrah pilgrims were stranded after the company postponed the flight, originally scheduled for Tuesday, to an unspecified date.

So far, no statement has been issued by the company.
