Man fined for playing ‘Thor’ at police station


MELAKA: An unemployed man was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to two charges of vandalising a police station and his ex-girlfriend’s car.

Muhammad Hidayat Burhan, 25, entered his plea after the two charges were read out separately before magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin yesterday.

The court also ordered the accused to serve eight months’ jail if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the first charge, Muhammad Hidayat was found guilty of vandalism by throwing a hammer, causing the front glass window panel of the Tanjung Keling police station here to shatter.

The act resulted in damages estimated at about RM2,000.

The offence was committed in front of the Tanjung Keling police station at 10.10pm on Jan 7.

For the second charge, Muhammad Hidayat was found guilty of vandalism by smashing the front window of a car belonging to an individual.

It was understood that the accused acted out of dissatisfaction with his former girlfriend, who had married another man.

The offence took place at a house located at Batu 7, Tanjung Minyak here, at 10.30pm on Jan 8.

For both charges, the accused was prosecuted under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of not less than one year and not more than five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Hanis Aliyah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib requested an appropriate sentence be imposed on the accused, who was unrepresented.

The court ordered Muhammad Hidayat to pay a fine of RM2,500 for each of the charges.

The accused later paid the fines.
