PETALING JAYA: The total losses for an umrah fraud case involving a travel company in Sepang is estimated at RM2.1mil, say police.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said his team had received eight reports over the case so far.
He said eight individuals have been arrested, including the husband and wife who own the company, reported Sinar Harian.
"Initial investigations found there are 379 victims. We urge any other victims to make a report," he said on Thursday (Jan 16).
It was previously reported that a couple who owned the umrah travel company, had been arrested by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) at around 7pm in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Jan 15).
Initial investigations found that the company started operating in 2022 and moved to a three-storey building in Sepang in October 2024.
Recently, over 300 Umrah pilgrims were supposed to fly to the holy land but the trip Was postponed by the operator.
