Senior citizen with criminal record nabbed with over 2kg of drugs in Muar


MUAR: A 61-year-old man has been arrested in Sungai Abong here with plastic containers and bags filled with substances suspected to be drugs.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the unemployed man was arrested at 5.10pm on Tuesday (Jan 14).

“During the arrest at a residential area, we seized two plastic containers and a plastic bottle containing what we believe to be 1,052g of heroin.

“We also found three plastic packets containing 1,224g of a substance suspected to be syabu.

"All the seized drugs have an estimated street value of RM67,665,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 16).

He added that the suspect tested positive for morphine and has drug and criminal offences on his record.

The suspect has been remanded until Monday (Jan 20) for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a death sentence, or lifetime imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

He is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, punishable with a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years in jail if convicted.
