Trio charged with trafficking over 1.9kg of syabu in Teluk Intan


TELUK INTAN: Three men have been charged in the Magistrate's Court here with trafficking over 1.9kg of syabu here.

However, no plea was recorded from the three accused, namely Mohamad Hafis Abu Bakar, 39; Muhamad Aliff Saidin, 34; and Muhammad Aiman Afiq Muhamad Yusri, after the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman.

The three men were jointly charged with trafficking 1,918g of methaphetamine in the parking area of a supermarket in Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan in the Hilir Perak district at about 2.50pm on Jan 6.

They are charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code and face the death penalty or imprisonment for life and if not sentenced to death, shall be punished with not less than 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

They were not allowed bail and the court set March 19 for mention.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan while the three accused were unrepresented. – Bernama
