KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan will continue to lead Perikatan Nasional in Penang as it has once held Penang for 39 years, says Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau.
He said this after a Chinese New Year celebration for Perikatan leaders and the public at its Cheras headquarters here on Wednesday (Jan 29).
Lau was asked about the recent statement by Perikatan deputy chairman P Punithan that the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) has expressed readiness to lead Perikatan Nasional in Penang.
Punithan said MIPP is open to discussions about assuming a leadership role in the Penang chapter following a report that the coalition plans to focus on Malay and Indian voters to secure a slim majority in the next state election.
Lau waived Punithan’s proposal.
