PETALING JAYA: The remand of the man who allegedly threatened comedian Harith Iskander and his family has been extended, according to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said the 31-year-old suspect’s remand period was extended for another three days.
“The suspect has been remanded until Friday to assist with the investigation.
“We are investigating under Sections 506 and 509 of the Penal Code,” Razarudin said when contacted.
The suspect was detained following a police report lodged by Harith’s ex-wife Dr Jezamine Lim, who is also his manager, at the Dang Wangi police station on Jan 23.
The suspect reportedly contacted Harith on Jan 21, threatening to kill him after the comedian made a joke related to the ham and cheese sandwich issue.
Two days later at a restaurant, Dr Lim received a threatening phone message accompanied by a photo of their children.
Police have seized the suspect’s mobile phone.
Death threats targeting Harith’s family led to the cancellation of his show at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), according to his ex-wife.
On Instagram, Dr Lim said a police report was filed regarding the threats made against her family.
“I received a death threat but what cut deeper and shook me to my core was a vile threat of abuse against our children,” she wrote on Saturday.
“Let me be crystal clear – threatening the safety of innocent children crosses every imaginable line. It is despicable, cowardly and inhumane.
“A report has been made and the police are investigating, so I will not be commenting further on the matter.”
