KOTA KINABALU: Authorities are awaiting the final report on the cause of death of an elderly woman who was apparently attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Kunak.
Kunak district officer Majaran Osman said local authorities had already taken measures to control the stray dog population, with around 250 dogs relocated last year.
“Our approach is not too drastic, as we are bound by the Animal Welfare Act, which requires us to act responsibly,” he said.
He added that officials are still determining whether the woman died from the attack or if other factors led to her death before the dogs gathered around her.
“The victim’s body has been claimed by her family following the post-mortem, and we are awaiting confirmation on the exact cause of death,” he said.
Kunak police reported that the woman was attacked by a pack of 11 stray dogs.
Her unclothed body, with bite marks, was discovered on Saturday.
