MELAKA: Throughout his eight-year career in the police force, Inspector G. Gunasellan had rejected bribes not just once, but twice.
In 2020, just days before the Chinese New Year, he was acknowledged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for refusing RM1,000 bribe from a traffic offender.
This time, on the first day of Chinese New Year, the traffic investigation officer was again recognised for rejecting another bribe.
Insp Gunasellan was given a certificate of appreciation for rejecting a RM200 bribe from a drunk driver attempting to escape legal consequences.
The 35-year-old cop from Jasin district police headquarters described it as the best Chinese New Year gift.
He received a certificate of appreciation from Melaka police acting chief, Senior Asst Comm Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi during a ceremony at Melaka police headquarters.
“I despise traffic offenders’ attempts to offer bribes. In both cases, the offenders thought they could get away.
“It is important for police officers like me to maintain public trust in law enforcement,” he added.
