SEPANG: The man who slapped his wife in public has not returned home since the incident went viral, and police are looking for him.
Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said police met with the victim and recorded her statement at the Sepang district police headquarters at 8pm on Jan 27.
“Police were informed that following the incident, the man took his wife and child and stayed overnight in Nilai before sending them home,” he said.
“He then left the house and has yet to return.”
ACP Norhizam said the police are actively tracking down the husband.
It was reported that the police had received a complaint lodged by the victim’s younger sibling.
The complainant confirmed that the assaulted woman was her 35-year-old elder sister, while the perpetrator was the latter’s husband, who is in his 50s.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
In the 29-second video, a woman was seen walking out of a shopping centre carrying a plastic bag before a man approached her and slapped her.
