Wee: Retired member’s post doesn’t reflect MCA stance

KUALA LUMPUR: A recent post by a retired MCA member does not reflect the party’s opinion, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

In expressing regret over the post, he said he has asked Johor MCA to investigate the matter and ensure that it does not happen again.

He added that the post was taken from another source and was uploaded by the retired member on Johor MCA’s Facebook page.

“We shouldn’t have shared (the post) if it’s not from us. Even if we want to share anything, the president will deliver it to the media or party members.

“However, if you are familiar with my way, I will not issue any criticism a few days before any festivities,” he said at the MCA Chinese New Year open house here on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Johor MCA issued an apology for a viral post on its official Facebook page, saying that a retired member accidentally posted it.

It said the post was shared by one of the Facebook page’s administrators without informing the party’s key leaders.

A VERY LOW BLOW

Previously, a screencap of the now-deleted post criticising several moves by the government had made the rounds on social media.

The post allegedly compared federal allocations for Islamic-related matters with the absence of free tolls during Chinese New Year.

Dr Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, said prompt action was taken once party members alerted him about the matter.

“Once again, the party apologises for the mistake. Moving forward, only the Johor MCA chief administrator will have administrator privileges over the Facebook page. No one else can post.”

“The muhibbah spirit should always be instilled and we don’t want the views of others to reflect what we stand for,” he added.
