KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has dismissed claims that they are in talks to work with fellow Opposition party, Parti Warisan, in the regional polls scheduled for September.
Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said reports suggesting otherwise were mere speculation and did not reflect the party’s official position.
“In response to the statement by Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking, I confirm that, as of today, there have been no formal discussions or agreements between Sabah Umno and Parti Warisan,” he said in a statement on Feb 15.
“All circulating reports are unfounded and do not represent Umno Sabah’s official stance,” he added.
Suhaimi’s statement comes amid talk that the two parties are planning to gang up against the Sabah ruling coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
He added that Sabah Umno and Sabah Barisan Nasional had yet to decide on whether they will work with any other political party.
Suhaimi said the party was focused on strengthening itself and being prepared for any political scenario in the coming months.
“Sabah Umno is confident in the trust of the people and its experience in governance. We will continue to be the preferred choice of voters across the state,” he said.
He urged the public not to be misled by baseless speculation, assuring that any official decisions or announcements would be made through the proper channels at the appropriate time.
On Friday, Leiking also rejected claims that the two parties will work together.
