Cops probing claims of misconduct during Damansara drug raid


PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating allegations that an Ops Tapis drug raid in Damansara last year was conducted unlawfully.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaafar said a video and statement on the claism went viral on social media on Tuesday (Feb 18).

He said the footage, uploaded by the account "En Abdul", claimed to show a raid carried out by four members of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of district police headquarters here, reported Sinar Harian.

"We confirm that the raid was conducted by the Petaling Jaya NCID at Pelangi Damansara.

"The incident took place on Oct 10 during an Ops Tapis operation in the Damansara area," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 19).

ACP Shahrulnizam added that investigations into the allegations are underway and that strict action will be taken if any misconduct is found.

In the viral post, the complainant claimed that four officers raided his home without a warrant, damaged his closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and removed the memory card.

The complainant also alleged that the officers extorted RM12,000 from him.
