Utar Hospital officially launched by Sultan of Perak, features Western and traditional medicine, 350 beds


KAMPAR: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Hospital here has been officially launched by Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MCA vice-president Datuk Tan Teik Cheng and Berjaya Group Founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.

The not-for-profit hospital, which costs about RM300mil, began full operations on Aug 1, 2023, said the hospital’s board chairman Tan Sri Dr Chuah Hen Teik.

He said the hospital was developed in phases, with an initial complex comprising 250 beds for Western medicine and 100 beds for traditional and complementary medicine.

"The facilities include out-patient and in-patient treatment, diagnostic and treatment centres, medical and non-medical supportive services, research and education facilities.

"There is a provision to expand by an additional 250 beds in the future when the need arises," Dr Chuah said in his opening speech.

"The medical team comprises resident specialists in internal medicine, orthopaedics and traumatology, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, paediatrics, general surgery, emergency medicine, and dental and oral surgery.

"Our paediatric services, for example, have been expanded to include evening clinics to facilitate parents seeking treatment for their children after working hours," he said.

"As of Jan, the hospital has recorded over 130,000 patient visits and follow-up," he added.
