BATU PAHAT: Police have recovered a stolen lorry tanker in Melaka within two hours after the vehicle went missing near Yong Peng about 40 minutes from here.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah said that a 42-year-old man lodged a police report on Tuesday (Feb 18) at around 10.34am stating that his lorry tanker, which he parked along Jalan Labis-Yong Peng, went missing at around 9.45am.
“Based on the report, personnel at Batu Pahat police district command centre relayed the information to the Johor police contingent command centre to alert police officers and personnel on the field.
“At around 10.50am, a team of Tangkak traffic police officers and personnel successfully spotted and detained the missing tanker within Sungai Rambai near Jasin in Melaka,” he said on Thursday (Feb 20).
ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added police had also detained a 41-year-old local man who was driving the stolen vehicle. He also tested positive for drugs.
He said further checks on the suspect found he has 13 previous records for drugs and crime where he was currently under remand until Friday (Feb 21) to assist with investigations.
ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
