Shah Alam kindergarten shut down after abuse allegations

KUALA LUMPUR: A kindergarten in Shah Alam has been ordered to close after being suspected of abusing a disabled child.

The Welfare Department public relations unit in a press statement on Saturday (Feb 22) said when they followed up on a viral post concerning child abuse by a babysitter at the kindergarten, they found that it was taking in children below four years old despite not being registered as a nursery.

"The child's parents filed a complaint at the Shah Alam Welfare Office branch on Feb 4.

"Welfare Officers found that the premises is registered under the Shah Alam City Council as a kindergarten through a temporary registration certificate issued by the District Education office.

"This kindergarten has Early Intervention Programme classes for children with disabilities," the statement read.

It further said that upon inspecting the kindergarten they found that the kindergarten accepted children aged four and below, which is not allowed as it is not registered as a nursery.

"We (the Welfare Department) have issued a notice prohibiting the kindergarten from operating as it has violated the Child Care Centre Act 1984.
