Umno ready to cooperate but must remain dominant in Sabah state election, Ahmad Zahid says

TAWAU: Umno is ready to cooperate with other parties in the upcoming state election but it must remain the dominant force, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He stressed that the party has never closed its doors on cooperating with any parties.

"It is important for Barisan Nasional-Umno to be the dominant party in the next state election.

"Our doors for cooperation are always open," he said at the 34th Sabah Umno anniversary celebration at the Tawau Sports Complex here on Sunday (Feb 23).

He said Barisan or Umno members should not worry about forging political pacts with Pakatan Harapan or Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) or any other parties.

"We have to open the door but not to those who don't understand.

"The important thing is that Umno must be dominant in the Sabah election. We are willing to form pacts but whatever it is, the interest of the people of Sabah must be prioritised," he said.

Ahmad Zahid said Sabah Umno had weathered the storms and challenges following the 2018 general election despite predictions that the party would be wiped out in the state.

"Sabah Umno is still surviving," he said.

He expressed confidence that Sabah Umno, headed by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, would lead the party to a convincing win in the upcoming state election.
