Foreigners among four charged with running cocaine lab


SEREMBAN: Four individuals, including three Chinese nationals, have been charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with ­operating a cocaine processing lab in Nilai.

No plea was recorded from Tan Wee Jin and foreign nationals He Jingjing and Cheng Ziyue, all 36, and Hu Jingjie, 28, when they were charged before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

They were charged with running a drug production operation with the intent to traffic cocaine.

The alleged offence took place around 6pm on Feb 17 at a unit in Nilai Spring Villas.

All four were charged under Section 39 (1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.

If convicted, they face either the death penalty or 30 to 40 years in prison, along with whipping.

Additionally, He, who was unrepresented, faced a second charge of trafficking 2.14kg of cocaine at the same time and location.

This charge falls under Section 39B(1)(a) of the same Act, which also carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with whipping.

Prosecuting officer Rubini Pubalan told the court that bail would not be offered and requested a mention date as the chemical report was not yet ready.

Syed Farid then set April 24 for the case’s next mention.

Lawyer Navin Punj represented Tan while Chang Kai Ping defended Cheng and Hu.

It was reported earlier that police busted an illegal drug processing lab in Nilai, seizing drugs, jewellery, luxury items, and cash – including foreign currency – worth about RM3.2mil.

Also confiscated were four vehicles believed to belong to the suspects.
