PETALING JAYA: With DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) seeing a significant shift in roles, its new members have given their commitment to unite under the new, younger party leadership.
Anthony Loke, who was retained as secretary-general, said he was confident of the new CEC lineup to further strengthen the party.
“Some of the changes we have made are to ensure more leaders have more opportunities to work for the party.
“It is now up to them to show their leadership qualities,” he said in a press conference after the announcement of the new DAP leadership lineup here on Sunday (March 16).
Gobind Singh said he was thankful for the opportunity to serve as new DAP national chairman, adding that he would do his best to further unite the party in his new leadership position.
“I have made it clear with the rest of the CEC that we must pave the way to ensure more unity in the party for its future.
“Now let us move forward, let us strengthen the party and let us make sure that we can build up DAP and take it to greater heights,” Gobind told reporters after the party poll results were announced.
DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng said he respects the decision of the party and its delegates after he shifted from his previous role as DAP chairman to DAP party advisor.
"I respect the decision of the delegates as my future has been determined by my party members, not by those outside (of the party).
"It is now time for us to unite under the new party leadership for the future," Lim said during the press conference.
When further pressed by reporters on questions of his future role in the party, Lim said "This moment belongs to Loke and the party, this is not my moment, I will answer such questions at another time,”.
New DAP vice-chairman Teo Nie Ching expressed a sense of confidence in the party following the party's decision to further include women in the party's leadership.
“I am very proud that we have become the first party committed to field 30% women candidates for the next general election.
“At the same time, it is also great to see nine women elected into the 30-member CEC with all of them placed into important positions such as myself,” she said to reporters after the party poll results announcement.
Fellow new DAP national vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan also expressed his commitment to showcase the party’s unity.
“There's now bigger responsibilities for me but I will do my best to showcase this party as a party for all regardless of differences in race, religion and ideology,” he told reporters.
