JOHOR BARU: Several schools in Johor have been affected by ongoing floods, with some experiencing rising water levels and others cut off due to heavy rainfall.
Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said that as of 12pm on Thursday (March 20), 11 schools, including SK Kangkar Tebrau and SK Perigi Acheh, had become completely inaccessible.
He added that more temporary relief centres (PPS) could be activated later in the day as flood conditions persist.

"Schools in every district have been designated as PPS, and we continuously remind them to stay prepared for evacuees at any time," he said.
“We have held multiple discussions with the Johor state and federal governments to ensure these schools are ready to function as relief centres in the event of floods,” he added.
Aznan said this when met by reporters after visiting the SK Bukit Mutiara PPS.
He also said that despite the disruptions, the education department was ensuring that teaching and learning continued.
"Lessons will proceed as usual under the Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) framework for affected schools," he said.
“Teachers and students will continue their education despite the challenges brought by the floods,” he added, noting that about 110 students across Johor Baru, Pontian, and Kulai had been directly affected.
In the Johor Baru district, several schools have been turned into PPS, including SK Bukit Mutiara, SJKC Kuo Kuang, SJKC Pu Sze, SK Kampung Pasir, and SK Kampung Maju Jaya.
Other PPS include SK Senai in Kulai, SK Melayu Raya in Pontian, and SK Seri Kencana in Kluang.
In the Kota Tinggi district, SJKT Ladang Nam Heng has been rendered inaccessible.
