KUALA LUMPUR: Be patient and wait for the toll relief announcement for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic).
“There will be (an announcement on toll). We have done this for Chinese New Year, of course, we will do this for Aidilfitri,” he told reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s working visit to the Works Ministry yesterday.
“Please wait, we will make an announcement. Please be patient.”
“We will do like what we did for Chinese New Year (which was) 50%,” he said.
A 50% discount on toll rates was given to highway users in conjunction with Chinese New Year in January.
In previous years, the government implemented toll-free travel during major festivals.
In February, Nanta had said that the 50% toll discount would be implemented during all festive seasons this year as a mechanism to replace the previous toll-free initiative.
Nanta said the toll issue was not discussed during the one-hour meeting with Anwar and top ministry as well as government officials.
Among the matters discussed with the prime minister was the ministry’s performance as well as efficiency in service delivery.
He said Anwar had also touched on having the sense of urgency and cost of doing business in the development of projects so that there is value for money.
