Tamil Nadu to help bring bull sport to Malaysia

MALAYSIAN youths may get a chance to showcase their mettle in the traditional South Indian sport of Jallikkattu, following a meeting between MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and M.K. Stalin, Makkal Osai reported.

The Tapah MP met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in Chennai during a visit to India recently.

The two discussed matters of interest between Tamil Nadu and the Tamil diaspora in Malaysia.

Stalin promised to provide expertise to hold the first-ever Jallikkattu event in Malaysia.

In Jallikkattu, specially bred bulls run free in an arena while participants try to bring them down with nothing more than their bodies. The animals are not harmed in any way.

The sport has made a huge comeback since 2017, after a long legal battle and the introduction of specific laws allowing the sport to continue with more protection for the bulls.

> The Indian community is shocked by the loss of Indian “voices” in DAP leadership following the recent party election, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Unmissable deals for festive shopping

The election saw some of those aligned with Lim Guan Eng lose and be replaced by those seen as more moderate and younger.

About 80% of the 30-seat central executive committee went to Chinese members, while five went to non-Chinese.

After the election, Gobind Singh Deo was appointed party chairman, while Ramkarpal Singh was made deputy secretary-general.

Kasthuri Patto’s appointment as international secretary and Arul Kumar Jambunathan as vice-chairman are seen as merely to make up the numbers.

Two leaders seen as the most outspoken on Indian issues – RSN Rayer and V. Ganabatirau – lost in the elections.

Although Gobind is the new chairman, the secretary-general is often seen as the decision maker with Anthony Loke now holding majority support.
