AN Indian Muslim family in Taiping, Perak, is continuing a 24-year tradition of providing free porridge during Ramadan, a practice started by their late father.

Businessman Abdul Latiff began cooking porridge at the Taiping Indian Muslim Mosque over two decades ago, offering it to both Muslims and non-Muslims during the fasting month, Makkal Osai reported.

Following his passing five years ago, his three sons – Syed Abdul Tahir, Syed Ahmad and Mohammad Wazir – have carried on the tradition.

According to Mohammad Wazir, they prepare six large pots of porridge daily for the first 10 days of Ramadan and five pots for the remainder of the month.

Syed Ahmad said they use 75kg of rice and other ingredients daily, ensuring the porridge is nutritious and suitable for those fasting.

The meat-free porridge has become a favourite among the local community.
