KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) distributed food baskets to 535 underprivileged families in the Kadamaian constituency, Sabah worth RM80,250.
It also distributed RM24,000 to 24 mosques and surau in Kadamaian for implementing various programmes.
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, was to help underprivileged families as well as provide monetary aid to mosques and surau to help them during Ramadan.
Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick praised YBR for their various initiatives that help those in need.
"I hope the food baskets will help them during Ramadan and to prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
"I strongly support these kinds of charitable work and hope that it brings people closer and forges friendships between organisations like YBR and the local community," he said at the Kampung Tambulion Sorob Mosque, Kadamaian, Kota Belud, Sabah on Saturday (March 22).
He said YBR places great emphasis on the groups of people that need help, especially orphans, the underprivileged and the homeless who receive lesser attention from society.
"They (YBR) also provide assistance to mosques and surau to further promote activities such as organising social, educational and religious programmes, including study classes, talks and activities for youth," he said.
Also present at this event were YBR chief executive officer Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, YBR head of operations Mohd Mukhti Abd Rahman and YBR corporate communications department manager Mohamad Ghazali Zainal Abidin.
In 2024, YBR spent RM3,395,810 to help the less fortunate to improve their well-being through socio-economic means, educational development and societal empowerment.
