Johor authorities identify 800 potholes in need of repair after floods

JOHOR BARU: Some 800 potholes have been identified in Johor following the recent floods, says state works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

He said the state government is racing against time to fix the damage in two days, especially with Hari Raya around the corner and the unpredictable weather.

“We have identified about 800 hotspots in five districts and have instructed our concessionaires to carry out immediate repairs.

“We aim to complete this within two days, as the weather is currently favourable.

"Repair work started on Saturday (March 22). If all goes well and the weather remains good, we should be able to get it done by Monday (March 24),” he said, adding that the five districts involved are Johor Baru, Kulai, Kluang, Pontian and Kota Tinggi.

He said this to reporters during a press conference after visiting some of the affected roads on Sunday (March 23).

Mohd Fazli said of the 800 locations, Johor Baru alone recorded around 500, making it the hardest-hit district.

Leading with trust and quality

“Some RM560,000 has been allocated from the existing maintenance budget for temporary patching works.

“There are also two locations in Kota Tinggi involving structural damage to bridges.

"These will require further assessment and separate allocations, depending on whether the roads fall under state or federal jurisdiction,” he said.

On a separate matter, Mohd Fazli said a meeting with relevant agencies, including the Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA), will be held soon, as preparations for Hari Raya.

“We have held a meeting recently and will be having another one in the next few days.

"The meeting is not just about border issues, but also other matters such as water supply disruptions and other recurring issues typically faced during Hari Raya,” he said.
