Temple relocation issue: Cops arrest man for alleged death threats against Firdaus Wong


PETALING JAYA: An individual believed to have made death threats against independent preacher Firdaus Wong in relation to the temple construction issue was arrested by the police on Saturday (March 22), Sinar Harian reports.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar told the Malay language daily that the suspect was detained by a team of police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters and the Damansara police station.

"Previously, a local man filed a police report on March 21 at approximately 4:18pm after receiving a voice message containing abusive language and death threats.

"Acting on the report, the police arrested the suspect on March 22 around 1:30pm.

Additionally, a mobile phone believed to have been used to send the threats was also seized," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 23).

He stated that the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The public with further information related to this case is urged to contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters' operations room at 03-7966 2222.

"Additionally, any information can be relayed by contacting the investigating officer, Insp Muhamad Shahiren Ibrahim, at 019-569 3864," he said.

The media previously reported that the independent preacher had filed a police report after claiming to have received death threats on Facebook following his statement regarding the temple construction issue.
