
PETALING JAYA: A man believed to have sent death threat messages to independent preacher Firdaus Wong was released on police bail on Monday (March 24).
Petaling Jaya district police chief, ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar (pic), said the suspect, who was arrested at approximately 1:30pm on Saturday (March 22) at the Damansara police station compound, was remanded for two days.
"The two-day remand for the man ended on Monday, and he has been granted police bail today (Monday).
"The case is still under investigation, and members of the public with information can contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222 or the case investigating officer, Insp Muhamad Shahiren Ibrahim, at 019-5693864," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The police also seized a mobile phone believed to have been used to send the threat messages.
Previously, the media reported that independent preacher Firdaus Wong lodged a police report after claiming to have received death threats on Facebook following his statement regarding the temple relocation issue.
Firdaus, 40, said the threat was received in a private Facebook message from a social media account.
