Cops searching for driver linked to missing disabled teen in Melaka

MELAKA: Police are trying to trace the driver of a silver Perodua Kelisa car reportedly connected to the disappearance of an 18-year-old woman with disabilities from Taman Rambai Idaman, Bukit Rambai.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit stated that the victim, identified as Nurin Wardina Hairi, who has a learning disability, was reported missing by her mother, Hamnahwati Mohamad, around 5.30pm on Saturday (April 5), after she did not return home from a nearby playground.

He mentioned that it was routine for the teenager to return home after spending time on the swings at the local playground.

"However, she failed to return home, and the 48-year-old mother lodged a police report on the same day," he said on Sunday (April 6).

ACP Christopher said the mother, who works as an account clerk, noticed the car parked suspiciously near her home when she left to send her second child to work at Tanjung Minyak.

"However, she assumed the car belonged to a guest staying at a nearby homestay and was shocked to discover her daughter missing upon returning home a few minutes later.

"A neighbour informed the mother that he saw the girl willingly entering the Perodua Kelisa, with no signs of coercion," he said.

ACP Christopher noted that the teenager has a speech disorder due to her disability and did not have a mobile phone with her when she went missing.

"My men have visited the scene to obtain CCTV footage of the vehicle’s movements.

"We are still working to trace the owner of the vehicle," he said, adding that the report is currently classified as a missing person report.
