Man detained in Bachok for insulting PM on social media

KOTA BHARU: A 25-year-old man was detained by police after uploading a video insulting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Bachok police chief Supt Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin, the video included offensive language and disrespectful nicknames aimed at the Prime Minister. It also claimed that Anwar misled the public during the Aidilfitri Madani event held on April 12 at Pantai Irama, Bachok.

The police received a report regarding the post on April 11. This led to the suspect's arrest and the confiscation of his mobile phone for investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

A search of the suspect's mobile phone uncovered explicit videos and images, according to a statement released on Tuesday (April 15)

The police stated that investigations into other offenses are ongoing, pending a full report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Police have advised the public, especially social media account holders, not to spread content that touches on 3R (Royal, Race, Religion) issues, as it could breach public order. – Bernama
