Be on your guard when receiving 'silent calls', say police

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are warning the public to remain vigilant against incoming phone calls where the caller does not speak and the line suddenly disconnects.

Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police have yet to receive reports of victims receiving such calls where their voices are recorded and those recordings are regenerated using artificial intelligence (AI) to defraud their contacts.

"Nevertheless, the public should exercise caution and are advised not to disclose personal information and to verify the call through official channels if claimed to be from authorities or financial institutions.

"Any suspicious calls or messages should be ended immediately and reported to the police," he said.
