Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in three states until 3pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across three states, effective until 3pm on Sunday (June 7).

In Pahang, the affected district is Rompin.

The warning covers several areas in Johor, namely Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Kota Tinggi.

In Sarawak, the severe weather is expected to affect Sri Aman and Sarikei (Sarikei).

The alert also extends to parts of Betong (Pusa, Saratok and Kabong), Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat) and Miri (Miri).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 1.05pm on Sunday.
