JOHOR BARU: Despite Pakatan Harapan's disappointing performance in three consecutive state elections, there is still time to win back voter support before the 16th General Election, says Johor PKR vice-chairman Jimmy Puah (pic).
"We cannot run away from the reality that this is the people's mandate. We have to accept the results and reflect if we delivered on what we promised.
"I believe there is still room for PKR and Pakatan to improve in a relatively short period of time but the message must be clear and sincere.
"The government under the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim leadership needs to understand these issues," he said at a press conference here on Thursday (Aug 6).
Puah, who is also Tebrau MP, was responding to questions on Pakatan's poor performance in the Sabah, Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections, where PKR also lost ground.
He said Pakatan and PKR should return to the fundamentals that initially won public support, particularly their commitment to justice and on anti-corruption.
He also urged the government to ensure that ordinary Malaysians could feel economic gains instead of just numbers.
"The important question is if the people can really feel the benefits… many are still facing cost-of-living pressures. The government has done a good job but there is room for improvement," he added.
He said Pakatan should continue rejecting identity politics and instead focus on economic and governance issues that affect all Malaysians, regardless of race.
"I am still proud that Pakatan and PKR do not play identity politics. We remain focused on justice, anti-corruption and daily economic issues that cut across all communities," he said.
