GEORGE TOWN: A 29-year-old woman escaped unhurt when her car caught fire at KM1.4 of the Penang Bridge (mainland bound) on Sunday (Aug 9).
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 3.07am.
"A fire engine from Perai fire station was dispatched to the scene, and arrived within nine minutes," he said in a statement on Monday.
He said the vehicle was about half destroyed in the fire, adding that the fire was put out at about 3.26am, followed by overhaul operations to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
The scene was subsequently handed over to the fire investigation team (FIO) for further investigation.
The victim, believed to be the owner of the car, did not suffer any injuries.
A total of nine personnel were involved in the operation, assisted by a fire rescue tender (FRT) and an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit.
