THE body of a child was found in Sungai Klang at about noon today (Aug 11), but authorities are still in the process of identifying the body.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, when asked to comment on the discovery at the Selangor State Assembly by reporters during the lunch break, said it was not known whether the body was that of a seven-year-old Indonesian boy feared drowned after falling into a river at Persiaran Subang Indah, near a supermarket in Subang Jaya, on Monday (Aug 10) night.
"We are not sure if this is the child, but the authorities are investigating it," she said.
She added that the site where the boy fell was undergoing flood mitigation works.
In a previous report, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 8.06pm on Aug 10.
He said a team from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene and arrived 10 minutes later.
"Based on the initial report from the Operations Commander, the victim is believed to have fallen into the river at about 6.30pm while playing with his friends," he said in a statement on Monday.
According to him, the search and rescue operation using surface-water search methods was facing challenges due to the relatively strong river current.
"The Water Rescue Team from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station has also been called in to assist with the search operation," he added.
